  Institutional enclaves as spatio-temporal intervals in the fabric of the expanded city

  This study will present a category of space-the “institutional enclaves”-as intervals in the fabric of the city of Rio de Janeiro to shed light on the possibilities of interaction between urban form and collective social practices in contemporary urban contexts. To this end, we will use the paradigmatic case of the plot of the current Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute (IMNS), former psychiatric colony of Engenho de Dentro, in Rio de Janeiro.
